It's been a long time since I actually sat down and put pen to paper (or you know pushed the buttons on a keyboard). So much has happened. Firstly the World Seniors and Mixed Doubles Curling Championships have come and gone. It was such a great time, I got to watch some of the best teams in the world play, and was able to meet some incredible people, both athletes and other volunteers. I had the opportunity to put numbers on the scoreboard (which is a lot more exciting than it sounds) and was able to interact with a lot of the officials. That would be an interesting pass time, officiating. You get to travel across our beautiful country and watch some of the best curling in the world. I also had the chance to time a few games, and although it was a little bit of pressure and a lot of paying attention (something we all now I need to work on) it was great. I was asked to time the bronze medal game, which was great because it meant I was doing a good enough job they wanted me to time more! Or they just knew I was going to be around the rink non stop watching so they didn't have to call someone else in ;). It was a crazy week though, being short "staffed" on our committee, I was working some days from 8-11, and others were doing almost as much. The experience though is one I will never forget and it opened up my mind to a few things for next year, including the upcoming Ford Womens World Curling Championships in Saint John.
Also in the past week or so, I was given the position of program director at Scotian Glen Camp. I have always wanted to remain working at a summer camp forever(or until I finally decided to grow up, like that will ever happen), but this summer I was looking elsewhere because I need to pay for school and counsellors pay will not quite foot the bill. When I was offered this position I was beyond happy. Not only will it pay a sufficient amount of money, but it is also a chance to work at a summer camp while gaining a little more experience with things other than just counselling! It is sure to be an exciting summer :)
Perhaps most exciting is I finished my first year of university. One whole year in the books!
As my computer is about to die, I'm going to finish this blog post now!
Until next time,
Britt
